It’s been a hell of a week. No sleep, no help, no husband and still three kids I must nurture, feed and keep alive. They do have their moments though. Good thing they are cute, or id be selling them to the next salesman at my door.
But today should be a happy day. He is home. He is here. He is standing in the kitchen…in front of my freshly poured cup of coffee. Does this man not learn.
I see him standing there pouring a glass of milk. Ok, I’ll wait.
No, no, no! He’s leaning. Why is he leaning on the counter! Does he not see my coffee. I have been standing here patiently for 5 minutes watching the steam rise up off the cup. My mouth is watering. And he’s leaning! That’s it.
I love you husband but we both know I am not a morning person. Why? Don’t ask me why standing there all awake and happy.
What does he do next? Wraps me in a bear hug. What is this dude’s problem! I’m not awake. I’ve got crap I have to finish and your trying to sooth me like a newborn baby. Holding me as tightly as possibly is only cutting off my circulation to my brain. Anger is rising inside me. I just want to punch him in the face. But then I look over and she’s standing there; politely waiting for me. Those dark brown eyes, porcline skin and warm tender kisses.
The moment when you realize someone has opened the door while your taking a shower. The brisk morning A/C cooled air is now rushing into your bathroom you have blissfully been pumping steam into for the past 5 minutes. Trying to create your mommy spa. It went like this –
Hubs: can you turn down the heat?
Me: (sigh) yes. Just a second.
Hubs: turn down the heat!
Me: ok. Geeze calm down. Why is it so important that I can’t take a 5 minute shower?
I turn around to see a naked, and poop covered, little SB. Sigh. That needed no answer.
Followed by the moment when… you don’t want to leave the shower for fear of what you will find – and smell.
PS. We took the spawn on a hike yesterday. Saw some amazing views.
Breakfast time for us is never a good time. I am not a morning person and have a issue with small minions whining at me before 6 AM. I have taught them to be self sufficient in many ways. They can get a glass of water, a bowl of fruit and snacks from the pantry. But I do know the value of a good breakfast and try to start their days off right and I’m always excited when I run across a meal the majority of them like, so instead of 5 different meals; I can cut it down to three (its the small things people!).
As a kid I loved strange foods; raw green onions, beets and kippers. One of my favorites and one i recently have circled back to is – low fat cottage cheese mixed with fruit. I just introduced it to SB again after a long break and she loves it as much as she did the first time; and she can feed herself (bonus!).
So for all those moms looking for a healthy way to start your day here is a quick recipe-
1 bowl of low fat cottage cheese (we buy bulk at Costco)
Fruit of your choice (I preference grape halves or peaches from the cup. Love the sugar free syrup mixed in)
But a warning- my kids have food AND sensory issues. So this is not for Diva or Bug. The curds and consistency freak them out and they get mad I mixed food they like in food they don’t.
